Africa Behind and Beyond the Headlines
Getting Started

The lessons in this issue introduce students to the interplay between environment and the traditional cultures of sub-Saharan Africa. Includes information on African peoples from the in Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and pieces from Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art. Students learn about the significance of African masks and create their own masks.
