Lift and Drag: Principles of Flight and the Soaring Imagination
Getting Started

The lessons introduce students to the basic principles of flight through a classroom study of balloons and gliders. Students create models of early gas balloons and gliders not only to learn of the forces of lift and drag that effect these aircraft in flight, but also to put on their own air show to test these models in flight.

The issue also includes a photo-tour of Smithsonian Institution Press and an article calling for the preservation of our nation’s plant species.

Note: This is an archival publication dating back to 1978 and any supplements or suggestions for off-site education may not be available.
