As the central education office for the Institution, the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies (SCEMS) serves teachers and students, grades pre-K through twelve. For this audience, SCEMS interprets the collective knowledge of the Smithsonian and teaches methods for learning from museums. SCEMS provides professional development for teachers, publishes informational and curricular materials for schools, fosters mutually beneficial relationships between schools and museums, and disseminates information about the Institution's educational programming and materials.
