In the course of the nineteenth century, the United States changed from a primarily agricultural country to a leading industrial nation. This issue of Art to Zoo examines the ways that precise scheduling and stepped-up tempos made it possible to run economic enterprises of ever-increasing size.
The lesson plan, in four steps, shows how time has “changed” over the years, and asks students to consider what would happen if all timekeeping devices were suddenly gone. Also included are a bibliography of resources and a pull-out page in English and Spanish.
