A Song for the Horse Nation
Saturday,  November  14 , July 2011, 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
National Museum of the American Indian, George Gustav Heye Center
One Bowling Green, New York City

Through stories, songs, and nearly one hundred objects, this exhibition documents the enduring relationship between Native people and the horse. Beginning with the return of horses to the Americas along with Christopher Columbus, it traces the ways in which horses became essential to travel, hunting, and defense, and served as inspiration for new artworks—particularly pictograph paintings, on clothing and buffalo robes, muslin cloth, and ledger books.
