Blanket, Tarahumara. Collected by Eugene H. Boudreau around 1982 at Rancho Huisuchi, above Munérachi, Chihuahua, Mexico. Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, cat. no. E429485, acc. no. 00416144.

Dimensions: 73 in. (warp) x 62 in. (weft). Warp dimension with tassels is 96 in.

Technique: Plain tapestry weave with tassels.

Thread count: Warp = 5/in.; Weft = 8/in.

Fibers: Warp = 1-ply handspun wool yarn, natural brown and gray, Z-spin. Weft = 1-ply handspun wool yarn, natural brown and gray, vegetal-dyed red and yellow, Z-spin. Warps form tassels at each end.

Design: A dark brown background with design only on the ends. Two bands of orange and yellow framing lines enclosing three orange and yellow serrated diamonds decorate both ends of this blanket.
