In the 1920s Hispanic weavers in northern New Mexico developed a distinctive style of weaving, which is now included under the more general label of Rio Grande weaving. Although the two blankets shown here vary in color, both have horizontal bands framing a central motif, typical of this weaving tradition.  This basic design scheme is elaborated in the blanket on the right with a complex central diamond and number of smaller motifs, including arrows.
