Tarahumara Woman Tarahumara Woman

These photographs, both taken in the 1980s, show two Tarahumara women weaving wool blankets on horizontal looms. The woman in the first photograph is at her home in Sinaloa, outside the traditional Tarahumara homeland. You can see that she has adopted the clothing style of her non-Indian neighbors. The woman in the second photograph is at her home in Santa Rita, Chihuahua, in an area where most residents are Tarahumara. Her attire is more traditional.
