Yamana Ayao,
"Donate Clothes for the Returning Refugees, Especially for Women and Children," Fall 1945
Offset print, 72.5 x 72.5 cm.

At war's end, Yamana Ayao (1897-1980), long famous as a designer for Shiseido cosmetics, turned his talents to noncommercial purposes. This somber poster for the War Calamity Relief Society called attention to the needs of Japanese refugees, particularly women and children, returning from China.
