Strap fragment, Ancestral Pueblo, AD700–1100. Collected by Neil Judd in Kane County, Utah, and acquired by the Smithsonian Institution in 1920. Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, cat. no. A315640, acc. no. 00065764.

Dimensions: 16 in. x 2 in.

Technique: Oblique interlaced.

Fibers: 2-ply handspun animal hair (probably dog), off-white, Z-spin, S-twist; 2-ply handspun animal hair (probably buffalo), brown, Z-spin, S-twist. Tassel = 2-ply handspun unidentified animal hair, light brown, Z-spin, S-twist.

Design: Repeating diamond pattern in brown on an off-white background.

Comments: Only part of the band remains intact, along with part of a tassel.
