The westward expansion of America and the economic development of towns and cities all over the United States were closely tied to the advent and growth of railroads in the 1800s and 1900s. This issue of Art to Zoo suggests ideas on how teachers can introduce the subject of trains and railroads to students, especially in connection with a social studies unit on westward expansion. Included are a bibliography of resources and a pull-out page entitled, “Write a Story!”
Note: This is an archival publication dating back to 1984 and any supplements or suggestions for off-site education may not be available.
