The Smithsonian workshop was titled “No Place Like Home: Borders and Neighborhood Identity.” Students related the exhibition El Rio to their own sense of place in Washington's Columbia Heights neighborhood.
Students read a poem about home by Gary Soto. They used this as a model for their own poems about their community.
