Cloth Fragment, Coyote Cave, Coahuila, Mexico. This cloth fragment was one of many items collected by Edward Palmer in Monterrey, Nuevo León, from Ignacio Galindo in 1880 for the Peabody Museum of Harvard and exchanged with the Smithsonian Institution for ethnological material. Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, cat. no. A349238, acc. no. 00009642.

Dimensions: 48 in. x 16.5 in.

Technique:Twisted looping (knotless netting).

Fiber: 2-ply, plant fiber (Agave sp., probably Agave lechuguilla), S-spin, Z-twist.

Design: Four strips with zigzag lines, checkerboard patterns, and squares. Each strip has a different combination of these patterns.

Comments: Worn in many areas.
