This Basketmaker bag is one of the earliest surviving textiles in the North American Southwest. It was made during a period when many societies were shifting from hunting and gathering to agriculture.

The bag features a simple striped design, a very common design throughout the North American Southwest. The striped blanket on the right was recovered from a dry cave in northern Mexico, located over 800 miles southeast of where the Basketmaker bag was found. It is at least 400 years old.
