This textile is a fragment of a woven strap that probably was attached to a basket used to carry food and other items. It was found in a cave associated with the Ancestral Pueblo culture.

The professional archaeologists who studied this site found that looters had moved and probably stolen items from it before they arrived.  Such disruptions of archaeological sites are illegal and hinder archaeologists from determining when and how the artifacts they find were used.
