Most of what we know about the people who lived in the arid landscape of Coahuila comes from the contents of several caves. From about ten thousand years ago until the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, these people maintained a way of life significantly different from those groups surrounding them to the west and north. They never adopted permanent settlements and agriculture, but continued a semi-nomadic lifestyle of hunting and gathering.
