The Tarahumaras use blankets like this one as bed coverings and as outer garments against the elements.

This photograph, taken at the conclusion of a religious ceremony in the Tarahumara community of Narárachi, Chihuahua, shows how Tarahumara men, women, and children in the late 19th century wore blankets to protect themselves from the morning chill. Note how the men wrap the blankets around themselves, while the women wear them draped over their shoulders like shawls.
